The materials for tomorrow morning's meeting aren't ready yet! Tonight will be an all-nighter! It goes without saying that your work efficiency will be poor the day after you spend the night without sleeping. In fact, it is said that after an all-nighter, your efficiency is as bad as working after drinking a bottle of beer.

You might think an all-nighter is an extreme example. However, continuous sleep deprivation can reduce your work performance to the point of being comparable to an all-nighter. For example, in an experiment, if healthy people's bedtime was set to 6 hours, it was found that after 10 days, their work performance dropped to the equivalent of one all-night session. Even 7 hours of bedtime is not enough, and work performance gradually declines.

Sleep is also important for sports performance. A study of NBA players showed that players who slept for 8 hours or more had a 29% increase in points per minute and a 37% decrease in turnovers (in this case, losing the ball to the opposing team in basketball) compared to players who did not, excelling in all aspects of performance. In the competitive world of sports, where a single point can make the difference between winning and losing, it is crucial for each player to get enough sleep for the team to achieve results.

High performers may work tirelessly. However, this actually hinders their potential. Even a highly designed car with thoroughly removed air resistance in a car race is useless if its engine efficiency is poor. To improve engine efficiency and maximize your potential, sufficient daily sleep is essential.

Graduated from the University of Tokyo. Graduated from the University of Southern California with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience.
Subsequently, engaged in research as a neuroscientist at Washington University for approximately seven years.
Later, served as project manager for neurological projects at a foreign pharmaceutical consulting firm.
Currently works at a foreign pharmaceutical company, belonging to the central nervous system department.
