Which countries do you ship to?
We currently ship from Japan to Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea, in addition to domestic delivery within Japan. Available products may differ by country.
How long does international delivery take?
Approximately 10-15 business days from dispatch, plus any customs processing time in your country.
Will I have to pay import duties or taxes?
Possibly, depending on your country. International orders are shipped Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU): where your country applies import duties, GST or VAT, these are payable by you and collected by the carrier or customs authority. Hong Kong applies no import charges. Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea generally apply import GST/VAT and may apply duties.
I'm ordering from South Korea: what is a PCCC?
Korean customs requires a Personal Customs Clearance Code (개인통관고유부호) for imported parcels. [Collection mechanism TBD — pending checklist item.]
Can I return an international order?
gugu Doggie and gugu Doggie Senior are not eligible for change-of-mind returns (this matches our policy in Japan, where pet beds are excluded from the trial program). If your item arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us within 5 days of delivery with photos and we will arrange a replacement at no cost.
Does the 45-day trial apply to international orders?
No. The 45-day trial applies to human sleep products delivered within Japan only.
How do I set it up?
Very simple. Illustrated instructions are included in the box. We recommend placing the mattress on a bedframe: improved airflow underneath helps prevent moisture, mold, and damage. You can use it without a frame, but please stand the mattress up regularly to air it out.
How do I prevent mold?
The gugu Mattress is designed for high breathability and heat dispersal, with Japan's rainy season and hot weather in mind. Placing it on a bedframe at least 7 cm off the floor keeps air flowing underneath and helps protect the mattress from trapped moisture and mold.
How do I care for the mattress cover?
For spot stains, dab gently with a cloth or soft sponge and a neutral detergent. The top section zips off for hand washing or machine washing on a delicate cycle. Air dry in shade. No tumble drying. Note: always use the delicate cycle; shrinkage or zipper damage voids the warranty. Dry cleaning is not recommended for the same reason. Avoid bleach and other harsh chemicals.
Can I use a futon dryer or electric blanket?
Yes, safely up to 70°C for 1 hour, or 50°C for 2 hours. Heat may temporarily soften the urethane foam; it returns to its original firmness when cool. Damage from overheating is not covered by the warranty, so please use at your own discretion.
Should I use sheets?
Yes, we recommend sheets for long, clean use. The gugu Mattress follows standard Japanese (JIS) sizing, so choose sheets to match your size.
Should I use a mattress pad or protector?
As you prefer. Pads and protectors keep the mattress clean but may affect breathability, airflow, and the cool feel. The top layer is breathable Tencel fabric with a zip-off washable design, so it stays clean either way.
Where can I try the gugu Mattress? (Japan)
We don't operate costly showrooms. We return that saving to our customers. Instead, the 45-day trial lets you test the mattress properly at home. If it doesn't suit you, collection is free for customers in Tokyo's 23 wards and Osaka City. See Returns & Trial below.
Can you take away my old mattress?
We don't currently offer old-mattress collection. Please contact your local recycling service or municipal office for proper disposal.
How long does assembly take? Can one person do it?
About 10 minutes (unboxing not included). No tools: no screwdriver, no hex key. The structure is simple enough for one person, even if you don't usually assemble furniture.
The parts won't fit together cleanly. What should I do?
Each part is precision-cut and designed to fit easily at the correct angle. Don't force them. Adjust so each part meets at a right angle as you assemble.
What is the maximum load?
Total load capacity: 400 kg.
Which mattress sizes fit?
The frame is designed to fit the gugu Mattress exactly, and follows JIS standards, so any maker's mattress in these sizes fits: Single (W)97 × (L)195-200 cm · Semi-double 120 × 195-200 · Double 140 × 195-200 · Queen 160 × 195-200.
Can I use a futon instead of a mattress?
We recommend mattresses or futons at least 15 cm thick.
What is the bedframe made of?
No MDF or plywood: repurposed rubberwood throughout. Rubberwood is a dense hardwood known as an environmentally friendly timber: scratch-resistant, strong, and durable. Each frame is individual, with the natural grain and handmade character of real wood.
What colors are available?
Natural, Brown, and Espresso, each with a premium finish. Because the frame is 100% real wood, each one has its own distinctive grain and slight color variation.
Where is the bedframe made?
At our partner factory in China, a partner we spent months finding, chosen for precise craftsmanship in small production runs to guarantee the highest quality.
How is the bedframe delivered? (Japan)
In two boxes (three with the optional headboard), free of charge, sized to carry through elevators, doorways, and stairs. One person can manage it; two make it easy. Box dimensions: Single: Box 1: 213×25×18 cm (25.5 kg), Box 2: 113×43.5×14 cm (17 kg), Headboard: 28×28×82 cm (4.6 kg). Semi-double: Box 2: 136×43.5×14 cm (21 kg), Headboard 5.5 kg. Double: Box 2: 156×43.5×14 cm (23 kg), Headboard 6.3 kg. Queen: Box 2: 176×43.5×14 cm (27 kg), Headboard 6.7 kg. (Box 1 is common to all sizes.)
What is the headboard?
It sits between the mattress and the wall (or any flat surface behind the bed), uses the same premium support foam as the gugu Mattress, and comes with a woven linen cover.
Is the headboard cover washable?
Yes, it removes easily. Machine wash on a delicate cycle and dry fully before use.
How do I assemble the gugu Doggie?
Very simple. Illustrated instructions are included in the box.
Is the gugu Doggie washable?
Covers: the outer cushion cover and center cushion cover are removable, and can be hand washed or machine washed on a delicate cycle. The white waterproof cover around the foam can also be removed and washed the same way. Zip closed, wash cold, and air dry fully before use. No tumble drying. For spot stains, dab gently with a cloth or soft sponge and neutral detergent. Always use the delicate cycle; dry cleaning is not recommended (shrinkage and zipper damage), and avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
Foam: please do not wash the urethane foam, as moisture left inside can cause mold. If the surface gets wet, wipe with a dry cloth and dry fully in a well-ventilated place.
How do I assemble the gugu Huggie?
Is the gugu Huggie washable?
Full cover: zip closed, hand wash or delicate cycle in cold water, air dry fully. No tumble drying. Center cushion waterproof cover (wash only when soiled): remove the cushion, zip closed, hand wash or delicate cycle in cold water, air dry fully. For other stains, dab with neutral detergent on a cloth or soft sponge. The cushion body itself is not washable.
What payment methods can I use? (Japan)
Credit card (VISA, JCB, Mastercard, American Express), convenience store payment, Amazon Pay, or SmartPay (3 installments, no fee). Orders are online only. We cannot take orders or payment by phone. Cash on delivery and bank transfer are not currently available. Notes: credit cards are charged in one payment (use SmartPay for installments); convenience store payment is cash, single payment, at Lawson, 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Ministop, or Daily Yamazaki; convenience-store-paid orders incur a ¥600 fee on returns.
Can I ship to a different address from my billing address?
Yes, no problem. The billing address must match the address registered to your credit card; the delivery address doesn't affect it.
I didn't receive an order confirmation email.
We send an automatic confirmation after every order. Please check your spam folder first. If you still can't find it, contact us with a PC email address (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) or call 03-6821-2772.
How do I cancel my order?

What happens if I miss the convenience store payment deadline? (Japan)
Orders are confirmed on receipt of payment. The payment slip number is valid for about 3 days from order; if payment isn't confirmed by then, the order cancels automatically.
Can I get a receipt?
Yes, the order confirmation email contains a receipt download link at the bottom.
How much is shipping?
Free throughout Japan, excluding Okinawa and remote islands (we cannot ship there). International shipping is calculated at checkout by size and destination.
Can I choose a delivery date? (Japan)
Yes, at checkout. Weather and traffic may affect delivery; for convenience store payment, stock and payment timing may also affect your preferred date, so please allow margin.
Can I change the delivery date or address? (Japan)
Yes, contact gugu Customer Support with your order number, name, and the change you'd like.
Do you ship to Okinawa or remote islands?
No, we're unable to deliver to Okinawa Prefecture or remote islands.
How many days does delivery take?
Japan: normally 1-3 business days. International: approximately 10-15 business days from dispatch.
What is the gugu Mattress 45-day trial?
The trial is for you. Research shows most people want to actually sleep on a mattress and move around on it to judge the fit. A few minutes in a showroom isn't enough. Notes: the trial starts on delivery day; one trial per address; with multiple mattresses in one order, one item is eligible for return/refund; collection is free in Tokyo's 23 wards and Osaka City, ¥7,500 per mattress elsewhere; convenience store payments incur a ¥600 fee; no need to keep the box; a minimum 14-day trial is required (the body takes 2-3 weeks to adjust). Wrong-size orders and size changes are not eligible.
What is the gugu Bedframe 45-day trial?
Try it at home for 45 days; if unsatisfied, we accept return and refund within 45 days of delivery. Trial starts on delivery; one per address; one set per order eligible; return shipping ¥2,500 nationwide; convenience store payments add ¥600; the frame must go back in its original shipping box. Please keep the box during the trial.
What is the gugu Huggie 45-day trial?
Applies only to purchases made on the gugu online store during trial campaign periods. Same conditions: starts on delivery, one per address, one item per order, return shipping ¥2,500 nationwide, ¥600 convenience store fee. Pack the Huggie in the storage bag we send and hand it to the collection carrier on the agreed date.
Does the 45-day trial apply to gugu Doggie / Doggie Senior?
No. The trial covers the gugu Mattress, gugu Perfect Fit, gugu Bedframe, and gugu Huggie only. gugu Doggie and gugu Doggie Senior are not eligible.
How do I make a return?
Contact gugu Customer Support with your order number; we coordinate the return and arrange collection. Once the return completes, we refund the full purchase price to your original payment method. Return shipping: Mattress/Perfect Fit ¥7,500 nationwide (free in Tokyo 23 wards and Osaka City); Bedframe ¥2,500; Huggie ¥2,500 (campaign purchases only). One item (set) per order is eligible; a minimum 14-day trial applies to mattresses.
What does the warranty cover?
If a defect occurs under proper use, we exchange for an equivalent product or repair free of charge. Mattress: 10-year warranty. Bedframe: 5-year warranty. See our Terms of Service for details.
Can I change the size?
Wrong-size orders and size changes are not covered by the 45-day trial return/refund. Please confirm sizing before ordering, and contact Customer Support if unsure.
