Introducing easy games you can play with your dog at home!
The weather has become quite cool, making it a good time for walks. However, it's unavoidable that there will be days when going for a walk is difficult, such as rainy days or busy days.
So, this time, I will introduce some games you can easily play at home.
Treasure Hunt Game
Show your dog a treat or toy once, then hide it between cushions or pillows. Then, encourage them to search with phrases like "Where is it?" or "Find it!"
By varying the hiding places and "treasure," you can enhance your dog's excitement and curiosity. Don't forget to reward them after they find it!
Tip
If you use a favorite treat or a smelly one, they will be more likely to play. This game stimulates their sense of smell and won't make too much noise.
Playing with a Ball
This game involves throwing or rolling a ball from one end of the room to the other and having your dog retrieve it. Choose a ball that is large and firm enough to prevent accidental swallowing.
In addition to various sizes of round balls, there are also balls that bounce unpredictably, so it's best to choose one that your dog prefers.
Tip
It's important to first get your dog accustomed to the ball. If possible, challenging them to catch it is also recommended, but in that case, be careful to prevent them from slipping on the floor.
Tug-of-War
Hold one end of a slightly long toy and engage in tug-of-war with your dog. Again, it's important to choose something your dog likes. Be careful not to let their teeth hit your hand.
Tip
Tug-of-war can also be a good way to practice "leave it" or "drop it" commands with your dog.
Stop pulling when you give the command, and if your dog lets go of the toy, either resume playing or give them a treat. Try practicing this when ending a play session, for example.
Commands
Teaching new tricks or commands is also a form of play. Teaching commands deepens the bond of trust with your dog.
Tip
Our past blog posts and Instagram posts offer tips and techniques for teaching commands, so please take a look at those as well.
Tips for Playing with Your Dog
-
It's important to stop playing before your dog gets bored and perceives the game as uninteresting. It's recommended to take a break after about 10 minutes at most.
-
Be careful to prevent injuries. Ensure the floor isn't slippery and that there's no risk of accidental ingestion.
-
Play without over-exciting your dog. They might accidentally bite your hand if they get too worked up.
Summary
With a little creativity and ingenuity, you can have plenty of fun with your dog at home.
We hope these tips help your dog have a more enjoyable time!
