What are sleep cycles and the benefits of deep sleep?
Stages of Sleep
Ideally, a sleep cycle repeats 4 to 5 times a night, typically lasting 90 to 110 minutes. Each cycle is divided into four stages. It begins with a relatively short period of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, then progresses into a longer, deeper sleep state. As morning approaches, REM sleep lengthens, and the body prepares to awaken from deep sleep.

Stage 1: Resting |
During REM sleep, all muscles relax, conserving energy and allowing the body to rest. Consciousness floats between internal and external awareness. |
|
Stage 2: Light Sleep |
Onset of sleep. Brain waves slow down, along with respiration and heart rate. Core body temperature drops. |
|
Stage 3: Deep Sleep |
The deepest stage of sleep, when it is most difficult to wake up. Brain waves slow to delta waves. Blood pressure drops, and breathing becomes slower and more regular. Eyes and body remain still. The body experiences the most recovery and restoration during deep sleep. |
|
Stage 4: REM Sleep "Dream Sleep" |
Occurs approximately 90 minutes after falling asleep and repeats in cycles of about 90 minutes. Eyes move rapidly, heart rate and blood pressure increase. Breathing becomes faster, irregular, and shallow. The brain is most active and dreams occur. Important for learning and memory. |
Functions of Deep Sleep
Stage 3, known as deep sleep or slow-wave sleep, is the most restorative of all sleep stages. During deep sleep, growth hormone is secreted, helping to recover the body and muscles from stress and strengthen the immune system.

While many factors such as diet, stress, alcohol, and drug use affect deep sleep, one of the most important environmental factors is body temperature.
As we cannot regulate our body temperature while sleeping, external control is necessary. The lower the internal body temperature, the stronger the sleepiness, and for body recovery, it is important to create a sleeping environment that lowers core body temperature.
gugu mattress... designed for comfort, coziness, and optimal deep sleep

The body's greatest recovery power during sleep occurs in Stage 3 deep sleep. The gugu mattress is designed with maximum airflow and breathability in mind, ensuring optimal deep sleep all year round, even in Japan's humid climate.
